No.1458396, Driver, Frank Lawrence NUNN
Aged 24

902 LoC Tech Workshop, Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers
Died in Accident on Friday, 6th July 1945

Frank Lawrence Nunn was born in 1921 in Fornham St Martin, (Bury St Edmunds Q1-1921 4A:1753) (appears to be) son of Elisha James and Adelaide Eliza NUNN (née EMMERSON).
Should the surmise be correct, his parents in the 1939 register were at Culford Road, Fornham St Martin, his father a retired gardener. Also there were his brothers Ambrose [19-6-1904], Ernest D [5-4-1906] and James [19-9-1912]. All three brothers were farm labourers.

The Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers were formed in 1942, quite rarely starting with the Royal prefix. Basically they took over the engineering side of the R.A.O.C, with other trades drawn from the Royal Engineers and R.A.S.C. Line of Communication Technical Workshop is self explanatory. by May 1945 they reached their maximum strength, approximately 8000 officers and 152,000 other ranks. It's first major operation was El Alamein. The ethos was to carry out repairs as far forward as possible. Where the 90th workshop was on the fateful day had not yet been found, but it was 2 months after the German surrender. An "in Memoriam" notice in the Bury Free Press (20th July) that he was killed as the result of an accident.

Frank Nunn is buried in Mierlo War Cemetery, Netherlands, grave 3:B:3
